A word from Mariana Smit

“I don’t have hobbies- I have passions!!”
Making a bouquet of flowers is one of my passions and being amidst a mass of flowers of all colours and types, is one of my favourite places on earth.

I grew up in a home surrounded by a wonderful garden and a mother who was forever busy making flower arrangements, for either a competition, or a Demo that she was planning for.
I am also fortunate to be married to a man who gives me the space and the support to enjoy my passion, Flowers!!

I have been in Floristry for the past 15 years, dealing with all kinds of requests, as well as, being a co-ordinator for functions and weddings. I love helping and guiding the Bride in choosing a Theme, Bridal Bouquet, Chapel, Reception and Centerpieces. Also helping and going through every little detail of the Big day, to create a style that is perfect for her, so as to make her “dream” day come true!!

My most “Special’ moment was assisting my mother with a mass arrangement at the prestigious “Chelsea Flower Show” in London UK, where we won the first “Gold Medal” for South Africa !!

To try to stay on top of current ideas; I often visit countries such as Holland, Germany, Italy and London for Shows and Courses to find out the very latest trends and designs. My most recent trip being to London where I completed a Course at the Jane Packer School of Flowers.

Flowers and Angels floral design school gives a wide variety of courses for different needs whether you simply enjoy flowers for your home, or for those who wish to make a career out of floristry or coordinating.

Being a qualified teacher, teaching is my other passion and therefore my wish is that you will enjoy your course, and take home a load of new ideas that will inspire you to create your own style and techniques!
